Hand carved from cottonwood root by Sam Pahona, from the Hopi tribe. This kachina stands 24" tall.

These carvings represent male dancers who, during Hopi rituals, impersonate numerous spirit beings called Kachinas. The dolls are not worshiped or prayed to as idols, but are used more in ceremonial education.  (Valentine)
