This Navajo basket is handmade and comes from the Twin Rocks Trading Post, made by Jonathan Black, a Navajo artist. Jonathan was well known for his weaving, specifically his ability to create symmetrical designs with high detail through tight spacing.
This basket is 8.5" in diameter, and woven with a dark brown spiral weave in the center with Navajo deities facing the 4 directions. This piece follows a similar pattern to sandpaintings by depicting sacred deities and crops in 4 groups, and keeping imperfections so as not to offend those deities shown.
